Sound FC is thrilled to share with you the U8 and U9 coaching staff assignments for the 2023-2024 season. Tryouts on April 25 and 26 are quickly approaching and we couldn’t be more thrilled of who we have slated to lead our next generation of players.   This is going to be an amazing year for the Sound FC U8 and U9 teams, as this coaching lineup is simply the best to be found in our area!

Girls 2016A (U8)

– The A team will be coached by Madison Schultz! Madison was a standout player for Northwest Nationals (one of the clubs that eventually became Sound FC) and Edmonds-Woodway High School. Her work ethic, talent, and leadership lead to her being selected for the United States Women’s Youth National Team and eventually to receiving a scholarship to play for the most storied women’s college soccer coach and program at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. This year, Madison has been working with the Sound G2009 team as they have been preparing to defend their WYS State Championship. Our club and our players are incredibly fortunate to have such a strong female leader working with our first year premier players, setting them up for a long successful journey through the ages at Sound FC and beyond!

Girls 2016B (U8)

– The B team will be equally fortunate to have coach Shannon Fenster leading them for their U8 year! Shannon has been around the game for her entire life and is about to complete her first year as a Sound FC head coach (G2014B). Her background in Coerver Coaching theory and methodology has allowed her players to grow at a rapid rate, with multiple players being considered for promotion to the A team. Shannon’s skills are matched by her passion for teaching young children about hard work, dedication, selflessness, and passion.

Girls 2015A and 2015B (U9)

– Both A and B teams will be coached by a face that will be familiar to most, Michael Duncan! Michael is the Director of Coach and Player Development for NYSA and is the face of every NYSA branded camp and clinic throughout the calendar. If your player has grown up in the NYSA system, Michael has definitely had an impact on their development! Coach Duncan has risen to the pinnacle of coaching education in the USA by holding the coveted US Soccer A License. The A License is an accomplishment that very few coaches ever obtain and with it comes a unique education in theory and coaching methodology that will undoubtedly help transform your player into someone who not only falls in love with The Beautiful Game, but also excels on and off the field.

Boys 2016A and B (U8) & B2015A (U9)

– Both the A and B teams at the U8 age group will be coached by our in-house 7v7 master coach, Evan Spong. Evan has been honing his ability to develop players at the 7v7 ages for over a decade now and his results speak for themselves. Countless players has exited their time under Evan’s tutelage, having acquired knowledge and skill that set themselves apart from their peers. Evan’s ability to instill discipline and develop a base of technical skill and tactical understanding is second to none. His coaching will set your player up for a long career of success as they will not only learn how to play, but more importantly, how to train. Evan’s value to Sound FC and our players, cannot be overstated. There simply isn’t a better coach of your player to work with as they navigate their first few years at the premier soccer level.

Boys 2015B (U9)

  – The Boys 2015B team will be coached by a passionate, successful, and knowledgeable coach in Sanad Elghanai. Sanad has spent the last few years honing his skills with Bothell HS and Canyon Park MS. As a player, Sanad excelled at Washington Premier and with the WYS Elite Player Development team. Following his youth career he studied and played soccer at Edmonds Community College (where he was coached by Sound FC Director of Soccer Brandon Mitalas) before moving on to Bushnell University, where he not only lead his team in goals scored, but also earned his Master’s Degree in Business and Leadership.

From Director of Soccer, Brandon Mitalas –

“Our 2016 and 2015 coaching staff is undoubtedly the best around. As I enter my second year as the Director of Sound FC, I couldn’t be more excited for what we are able to offer to our families and players! The combination of youthful exuberance and high level experience simply cannot be matched by anyone else. I cannot wait to begin the new year with this staff leading our next generation of Sound FC players, you just couldn’t write a better first chapter for these players!!!”
